Jefferson City seeks $20 million state contribution for downtown garage as larger $130M hotel‑conference project draws scrutiny

Jefferson City officials told the House Appropriations Committee on Oct. 12 they seek a $20,000,000 state appropriation to replace the city’s failing Madison Street parking garage and to support a broader downtown redevelopment that includes a 200‑room hotel and a roughly 40,000‑square‑foot conference center.

City Administrator Bridal Crane and Luke Holtsider, president of the Jefferson City Regional Economic Partnership, urged the committee to support the request for visitor parking and meeting‑space improvements. Holtsider summarized the city’s engineering assessment and development plan: "The assessment did examine the feasibility of replacement or, rehabilitation of the garage and determined and made recommendation for a full replacement," he said, and later stated, "The total project costs ... is roughly $130,000,000 for the parking garage, hotel and conference center project."
