Committee clears two resolutions allowing schools to use House chamber for Glory of Missouri awards
Summary
The Committee on Consent and House Procedure voted 10-0 to recommend due pass for House Resolution 11 66 and House Resolution 12 89, allowing middle schools to use the House chamber for in-person awards ceremonies on dates requested by the sponsors.
The Committee on Consent and House Procedure voted unanimously to recommend that the House grant use of the chamber for two school award ceremonies.
Representative Bridal Bannerman, sponsor of House Resolution 11 66, asked the committee for permission for middle schools in his district to use the chamber for the Glory awards, saying, “I'd like to thank the consent committee for hearing my house resolution.” Bannerman told the committee the event would be on a Monday in April and that participants would be in the chamber “from 10 till about noon.” He said last year’s event drew “over a hundred” students, parents and staff and that he had added one school outside his district — Loandale — because his wife is the principal there.
Representative Kim Smith, sponsor of House Resolution 12 89, requested chamber use on May 5 from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. for schools in House District 68. Smith, who identified herself as a former Ferguson-Florissant School District teacher, described the district’s programs and said the awards align with the district’s strategic goals. She told the committee the initial attendance estimate for her event was 22 people.
