Will County committee approves intergovernmental agreement with Joliet Township, sheriff’s office for transportation services

A Will County committee on health and related services approved an intergovernmental agreement between Joliet Township and the Will County Sheriff’s Office to govern transportation for health and social services.

The committee voted to place the item for discussion on a motion by Freeman and a second by Mitchell; roll call showed unanimous approval by the members present and the motion carried. Committee members identified that Joliet Township owns the vehicles and the sheriff’s office would provide the service under the agreement, and the township’s attorneys have reviewed the draft and will need to pass a mirror action on their side.

The agreement was described by staff as a housekeeping split of the earlier package into a separate resolution and a separate IGA after attorney review; staff said Joliet Township attorneys had no further objections and the township would need to return to its board to adopt the IGA.

No specific funding change or new dollar amount was included in the committee discussion. Deputy Chief Dan Jungels of the sheriff’s office was identified as the agency contact in prior discussion but was not present to present the item at this meeting. The committee took no additional direction beyond approving the agreement for the county’s part and noting the township must complete its internal approvals.
