The Lake County School Board on March 24 approved an internal audit statement of work with consultant RSM, approved instructional materials for four Advanced Placement science courses and gave tentative approval to a package of district policies, all by unanimous votes.
The internal audit scope of work from RSM was added to the agenda as an emergency item because the superintendent said the district was already “a couple of weeks delayed” and RSM was ready to begin work. The superintendent recommended approval of the internal audit statement of work; the motion was moved by Mr. Mathias and seconded by Mr. Dodd and passed 5-0. The superintendent said RSM will meet monthly with Mr. Brandyberg and once a month with the superintendent, and that the scope will be monitored with monthly updates to the board. The superintendent also said a bullet was added to the scope clarifying competitive procurement reporting: it will note the dollar amounts and percentages of purchases coming from piggybacks and state bids.
The board approved instructional materials for Advanced Placement biology, chemistry, environmental science and physics. The superintendent said the materials had been vetted by the district curriculum and instruction (CIA) team and selected by teachers. The motion to approve the instructional materials was moved by Miss Mathias, seconded by Mrs. Cunningham and passed 5-0.
During a public hearing, board member Mr. Cole opened tentative approval for a group of policies including: Policy 100 (Definitions), 131.1 (Technical Corrections), 1362 (Anti‑Harassment), 2120 (School Improvement), 2125 (School Advisory Councils for School Improvement and Accountability), 2300 (HOPE Scholarships), 2432 (Driver Education), 2520 (Selection and Adoption of Instructional Materials), 2522 (Challenges to Adoption or Use of Instructional/Library or Reading List Materials), 3362 (Anti‑Harassment), 4362 (Anti‑Harassment), and 8330 (Student Records). No members of the public spoke on the policies during the hearing. The superintendent recommended tentative approval; the motion (moved by Mr. Mathias, seconded by Dr. Luke) carried 5-0.
No amendments to the motions were recorded in the transcript. The board’s recorded outcome for each formal action listed above was “approved,” with vote tallies reported as unanimous (5-0).
