Commissioners and maintenance staff told the Lancaster County Fire Commission several county and tenant apparatus were out of service for repairs and that matching-fund paperwork and insurance reimbursement claims need to be submitted promptly to avoid losing budgeted line items.
The report matters because several apparatus are unavailable for service and because unclaimed reimbursements or matching-fund shortfalls could reduce future budget allocations.
Maintenance staff said City Tower 1 was down awaiting warranty work after discovery of chain links in its gearbox and that Ladder 3 was out of service while crews investigate EGR-valve issues. The maintenance representative said replaced parts are being double-checked before returning units to service.
Staff also said pagers for several stations have arrived and are being programmed, brush trucks continue to be placed into service station by station, and that one vendor’s invoices for host testing were higher for some stations because of negotiated per-square-foot pricing; those invoices have since been corrected and submitted for payment.
Financially, staff told commissioners several stations had not yet submitted insurance-reimbursement requests and urged them to submit claims promptly because unspent line items risk being removed from next year’s budget. “You need to do that as quickly as you can… last year, I think they tried to freeze everything about the June 1,” a staff member said.
Ending: Maintenance staff asked stations to provide matching-fund requests and insurance paperwork and said repaired apparatus will return to service only after warranty and verification steps are complete.
