21 Highland Street committee to present interim report to select board; community engagement next

Representatives of the 21 Highland Street committee updated the Recreation Commission on April 1 that an interim report has been posted to the committee website and will be presented to the select board at an upcoming meeting. The committee said it is moving from concurrency analysis toward community engagement on possible alternative uses for the 21 Highland Street property.
"We're pretty confident in the next stages of our project, which is moving concurrency analysis into now working with the community on possible alternatives, for use of 21 Highland," a committee member said. The committee told the commission it will present again to the select board and expects a final report in June; the committee noted that outcomes of town-meeting decisions and broader capital projects will influence any recommendations about 21 Highland.
Commissioners asked for follow-up information and contact with staff to review findings; staff agreed to schedule a meeting to review economic and usage data and to continue small-business outreach in the area around 21 Highland.
No decision or formal action was taken by the Recreation Commission on the interim report at the April 1 meeting; the committee said it will continue public engagement and provide the final report by the June deadline.
