Recreation department says $25,000 accessibility grant will fund track improvements

At the April 1 meeting, Recreation Department staff said the department applied for and received a $25,000 grant from "EOED EOD" to implement parts of the town's 2021 accessibility self-assessment for the track at Centennial (Trottier). "We actually applied with the EOED EOD, and got a $25,000 grant," the staff member said, describing the award as funding work on an entry gate, a lift at the right entrance, and better accessible connections between the concrete walkway and the track.
Staff said they are working with an architect (Cornerstone, recommended by school staff) to complete design work and expect a tight construction window to spend the funds before June. The department agreed to share plans with the town's ADA committee for review and feedback once designs are available.
Commissioners discussed outreach to the ADA committee and to school facilities staff (named in the meeting as Keith Lavoie and Brian Fantoni) to coordinate the work and reduce implementation risk. No formal appropriation or motion was taken at the meeting; staff characterized the work as a grant-funded design and construction effort with a June timeline for completion.
The commission asked staff to provide the ADA committee and commissioners a copy of the design once it is ready and to begin vendor procurement with the limited summer window in mind.
