Scott County awaits final federal sign-off on roughly $446,000 cybersecurity grant

Scott County staff told the fiscal court the county has been awarded a cybersecurity grant for approximately $446,000 and is awaiting final federal- and state-level approvals before the county can draw down funds.
Chip, the county’s IT staff member who led the grant application, said the package has routed from the state homeland security office to FEMA and the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) and back. "We anticipate a thumbs up email that says you can expend funds and then get reimbursed," Chip said. Staff stressed they have not yet spent funds and will only begin expenditures once they receive the final authorization.
When fully approved, the funds are intended to support network and cyber-hardened infrastructure work in coordination with the Madison County data center, county staff said. The county has repeatedly revised requested items to ensure eligibility and is nearing the final clearance to proceed.
Officials said the award will be reimburse-ment-based: the county may need to pay invoices up front and then receive reimbursement after federal/state sign-off. County staff asked for patience while the final approvals are routed and said they will notify the court when the county may begin spending and requesting reimbursements.
