Protective-services reports more than double since 2018; county says new Easton long-term residence is full

County aging staff told the Human Services Committee April 3 that reports of need to protective services units have increased substantially since 2018 and that a new long‑term structured residence in Easton is at full occupancy.
Staff member Miss Bridal Lasky said the county tracked 723 reports of need (RONs) in February 2018 and 1,735 RONs in 2024, an increase that staff described as a major workload pressure for protective‑services teams. “Protective services is the top priority in aging,” Bridal Lasky said, and staff have increased protective‑services staffing to meet rising demand but noted the caseload has grown faster than staffing levels.
The committee also heard an update on an eight‑bed long‑term structured residence (referred to as ORLTSR) in Easton that is now full. County staff said the residence serves people recently released from jail and is managed by Comar (as stated in the meeting). Staff said an additional eight beds would require substantial extra state and federal funding.
Committee members did not vote on funding or program changes at the meeting; staff said they will continue to report caseload trends and capacity developments to the committee.
