Legislative intern compiles statewide CTE directory for Commerce panel; some centers still unreported

Helen Argraves, the legislative intern for the Vermont House Committee on Commerce and Economic Development, told the panel on April 4 that she has compiled a spreadsheet listing each career technical education (CTE) center’s director and contact, town, classification (half- or full-time), catchment towns, programs and number of programs.
Argraves said she had contacted every center except Canaan and Missisquoi and had heard back with full or partial enrollment data from seven centers so far. "I do have a good amount of data, but not all of it," Argraves said. She told members some centers sent next‑year projections, but the committee asked her to prioritize current‑year numbers so they would not require extra work from centers.
The document is built so users can sort columns (A–Z, Z–A) or by program counts and half‑time/full‑time status, Argraves said. She also asked centers for program‑level wait‑list and open‑spot breakdowns; committee members said more granular program data would be most useful for identifying oversubscribed programs.
Argraves said she had requested K–12 and high‑school enrollment numbers for each catchment area from Ruth Durkee at the Vermont Agency of Education; Durkee told Argraves she expected to provide those figures by the following Monday. Argraves also reported that Nicole McTavish at PAHCC is assembling a statewide spreadsheet with overlapping data and offered to meet and share what they have collected.
Argraves relayed one specific center’s figures: North Country Career Center reported 211 students enrolled out of a 336 capacity and an additional roughly 200 students in pre‑technical foundation courses. She said some centers noted that annual enrollment depends on staffing and whether students begin their senior year, which can affect capacity for younger cohorts.
Committee members suggested Helen follow up with centers that provided next‑year numbers and ask them to submit current‑year counts and, where available, program‑level wait‑list numbers. They also advised reaching out to superintendents when center contact information appeared out of date.
The committee did not take formal action; members agreed to use the spreadsheet as a reference as they move into substantive bill work on CTE and to accept data updates from Argraves as they arrive.
Argraves closed by offering to continue data collection and to incorporate the Agency of Education’s catchment enrollment numbers when provided.
