Tacoma School District honors state wrestling champions, volunteers and 10 new National Board-certified teachers

The Tacoma School District No. 10 board honored students and volunteers during its April 10 meeting.
Principal Carl Hosseth recognized two Lincoln High School wrestlers. "Tavar Lee is a junior at Lincoln High School" and was introduced for his season record and titles; the principal said Tavar finished the season 48–1 and won the 2025 state wrestling championship at 132 pounds. Hosseth also introduced senior Brad Amson, who the principal said won the 2025 state wrestling championship at 285 pounds and finished the season with a career record the principal stated as 121–34.
Amanda Scott Thomas led volunteer recognitions for National Volunteer Month, thanking PTA groups and community organizations including New Community Church, Stafford Elementary PTA and Bowles and Whittier PTAs. Scott Thomas noted a districtwide Special Education PTA and encouraged other PTAs to share resources with families in need.
Zeke Edmond recognized teachers who achieved or renewed National Board Certification. Edmond said 10 newly certified teachers were being added to the district total, and named recipients called to the dais: Janelle Gard, Anastasia Johnson, Suzanne Lam, Daniel Udell, Alyssa Yurish, Andrew Voe, Michael West, Matthew Lonsdale and Lori Moore. He also named three educators who renewed certification: Jana Fullerton, Kristen Mitchell and Susan Miller.
Ending: The board applauded the awardees; staff and directors said they would circulate photos and follow-up materials.
