CHARLESTOWN, R.I. — The Planning Commission set a March 17 special meeting/workshop to review the Charlestown needs analysis and proposed zoning updates, town staff said Feb. 26.
Consultant Jim Reardon will present to the town council and planning commission; staff said phase 1 and phase 2 reports and the implementation appendix (including suggested zoning edits and maps) are posted on the town website. Jane Weidman, outgoing town planner, urged commissioners to attend the March 17 session to review the proposed nitrogen management overlay district and other implementation details.
Commissioners noted at least one apparent typo in the posted materials: a cross-mills density figure labeled "10 acre" that reviewers said likely intended a much smaller unit (discussants suggested it might be 1 acre or 0.1 acre). Staff said they would notify the consultant and ask for corrections prior to finalizing the report.
No formal action was taken; the workshop is intended as a consultative step before any ordinance changes. Staff asked commissioners to review the posted materials in advance, and the consultant will return to present the final package at the March 17 meeting (start time discussed at the meeting: 6 p.m.).
