Council reappoints two to Planning Commission; staff cites Matchboard recruitment process

Lake City council approved Resolution 2025.001 on Jan. 14 to reappoint Warren Carter and Frank Burgess to the Planning Commission and discussed how vacancies are advertised.

Council considered the resolution to reappoint the two members; the motion to approve was moved and seconded and carried on final reading. A council member asked whether the city had advertised the openings beyond notifying incumbents. Staff explained the openings were posted on the city website and on Matchboard, an online application/notification tool, and that incumbents who wished to continue submitted emails expressing interest. Staff said no other applicants had applied through the advertised channels during the posting period.

Council members asked whether the advertisement process could be expanded. Staff said the city posts vacancies on the website and Facebook and that Matchboard notifies opt-in users when an application status changes. The clerk and staff agreed to list vacancies and encourage council members to share application information in their districts.

The council approved the reappointments; the motion and second were recorded but the transcript did not read roll-call vote names. Staff committed to bringing a vacancies list to the next council meeting to support outreach.
