Tecumseh students, choir earn top ratings; three students win statewide ensemble slots

At the March 17 meeting, the board recognized choir council and several students: choir ensembles earned Division 1 ratings at the MSVMA District 8 festival, and two students were selected for All-State ensembles (including one of three high-school piccolo spots statewide and one of four middle-school bassoonists).
Director Simon Sebaski and student leaders presented the choir council's recent results at the Michigan School Band and Orchestra Association (MSBOA/MSVMA) District 8 choir festival: both concert and chamber ensembles earned Division 1 ratings, the highest possible. "This achievement reflects the dedication and hard work of our singers," said Taylor, Choir Council president.
Superintendent Matt Hilton invited students who earned state ensemble slots to perform and recognized individual placements: Alyssa Etter, a tenth grader, was selected as one of three high-school piccolo positions in the state; eighth grader Leo McKinchak was selected as one of four middle-school bassoonists statewide. Board members thanked the students and staff and congratulated the choir counsel for their work.
The board heard brief student remarks about the learning experience, clinician feedback at festival and the teamwork behind the ratings. No formal action was associated with the recognition.
The board's "good news" segment also included student musical performances for trustees.
