St. Bernard Parish Schools present March 'Super News' highlighting student achievements and community partnerships

St. Bernard Parish School Board communications staff presented the district’s March “Super News,” outlining student accomplishments, community partnerships and upcoming events.
The monthly communications packet, introduced by Ms. Sarah Felt and presented in part by Superintendent Barry Lemoine, highlighted local academic teams, Special Olympics, theater productions, and the district’s teacher-preparation program.
The update detailed that more than 200 students participated in recent academic-game tournaments, with top scorers qualifying for four national teams that will travel to Arlington, Virginia, for the Academic Games League of America national tournament in April. “None shine brighter than the members of our academic teams program,” Superintendent Barry Lemoine said.
The report also noted Special Olympics participation, thanking Valero Energy and a range of community partners including the sheriff’s office, fire department, Nunez Community College and parish government for their support. The communications segment promoted a spring staging of Kiss Me, Kate by Chalmette High School players at the CCAC and listed upcoming student showcases including the Invention Convention and the Gold in the Road playwriting residency.
Staff highlighted the Teach Saint Bernard alternative certification program (TSB), which underwent a state on-site review and received a 4 out of 4 “highly effective” rating from the Louisiana Department of Education and ETO. The segment encouraged prospective teachers to contact the school board office for opportunities.
Also noted were school-level recognitions: Chalmette High School’s Owl Watch News won the Louisiana School Board Association (LSBA) student video contest and received a $1,000 prize; teacher recognition events funded by community partners that yielded more than $10,000 in donated prizes; and ongoing partnerships with Kiwanis to encourage student reading through monthly rewards and an end-of-year Barnes & Noble field trip.
The communications packet provided social-media analytics and links to press releases and invited the public to upcoming district events listed in the March edition of Super News.
Less critical details included additional school-by-school student features from the district’s student news segments and reminders about ticketing for performances.
