The Joint Standing Committee on Marine Resources voted unanimously to recommend Carl Wilson of Alna for confirmation as commissioner of the Maine Department of Marine Resources following a public hearing and extended questioning from committee members.
Wilson was presented to the committee by Tom Mabelo, Deputy Chief of Staff for Governor Janet Mills, who said the governor selected Wilson for “his deep background in marine science and research, his experience collaborating with commercial fishermen, and his knowledge of the department.” Mabelo told the committee Wilson has spent 25 years at the department and “since 2015 … directs a staff of 90 scientists.”
