Addiction Recovery Services thanks Iroquois County board; asks to coordinate with public health

A representative from Addiction Recovery Services spoke during the public-comment period at the April 3 Iroquois County Board meeting to thank the board for allowing the organization to provide free services and to report an increase in opioid-related calls.
"I'm Pete from Addiction Recovery Services," the speaker said, and reported, "We've kind of seen an increase in calls due to opioids. So, we we hope to help a lot more people, overcome their addictions." Board members asked about the age groups most affected; the speaker said the highest concentration appears to be in the roughly 22-to-30 age range.
Board members encouraged the provider to return with more specifics about services and funding use. One board member said, "we'd like to see that our money is being used wisely" and asked the speaker to bring detailed information to the next meeting. A planning-and-health update later in the meeting indicated staff had already asked Addiction Recovery Services to coordinate with the public health department because the provider's services are free and complementary to public-health programs.
