The resolution encourages residents to visit their library during the observance.
Jerry Kounterman, identified as representing the library association, joined commissioners at the lectern. A library representative, Carolyn, told the commissioners, “We’re really looking forward to next week, the celebration of National Library Week,” and described library events that include a Right to Read Day, National Library Workers Day and National Library Outreach Day as well as local outreach programs such as STAR and bookmobile visits.
Commissioners and the library representatives noted volunteer and staffing levels: a library representative estimated about 300 volunteers across the system and roughly 250 staff. Fundraising, programming and library partnerships with schools and businesses were mentioned as part of library work in the county, and commissioners thanked the visitors for attending.
The proclamation was presented during the meeting and will accompany the county’s public recognition of library events during April.
