Oakwood Shores residents say they were not notified after repeated continuances; county says item will be re‑noticed
Summary
About 20 residents who identified themselves as Oakwood Shores community members told the commission they repeatedly have seen an Oakwood Shores item removed or continued without notice. Staff said notices are sent by mail and email to people on the project list and that the continued item will be re‑noticed when a hearing date is set.

A group of roughly 20 residents identifying themselves as Oakwood Shores community members told the San Joaquin County Planning Commission they did not receive notice of a planning item that has been removed or continued from the agenda more than once.
Residents said they had organized to attend and had waited in the meeting lobby or Teams chat but were not given an opportunity to speak because the item was not before the commission at that time. One resident said the group had received a single notice through a common interest group but most residents did not receive county notices; multiple speakers requested an assurance that the matter would be heard on its next scheduled date.
County staff replied that because the meeting action that evening was to continue the item to a date uncertain, the commission had not opened a public hearing on the substance of the project and therefore public comments on the matter at that meeting would not become part of the formal record. Director Jolly told residents the county will re‑notice the item when it is agendized again and explained typical notice procedures: mailed notice within a radius determined by zoning, posted notices on the county website, and email notification to those who previously requested notice or who are on the project contact list.
Residents asked for a concrete meeting date and for staff to add their contact information to the notification list; staff advised the group to contact the project planner, Stephanie Stowers, to be added to the distribution list. Multiple residents said they had sacrificed time to attend and that repeated cancellations were frustrating.
