North Bend approves design work to add 20–25 downtown parking stalls on Ballarat Avenue

Staff said the city plans to improve a roughly 200‑foot stretch of Ballarat Avenue opposite Taylor Park (near the train depot and the North Bend Bar and Grill) that currently is a narrow paved road with gravel shoulders; the redesign aims to add 20–25 parking stalls. Staff estimated a net increase of 10–15 parking stalls for the downtown corridor compared with current shoulder parking.
Why this matters: downtown businesses and weekend train‑depot events generate parking demand; staff said the project will activate underused city‑owned land, improve lighting and public safety, and support downtown access for visitors and residents.
Staff said design could be completed by the end of summer and the city could advertise the project for construction alongside the Ballarat Plaza/Taylor Park Gateway work, with construction possible in fall 2025.
Action taken: Council approved AB25‑034 authorizing the mayor to sign a PH Consulting contract in an amount not to exceed $93,000. The vote was unanimous.
