Julie Rudolph, assistant director at Mahoning County Children's Services, asked the public to attend a Pinwheels for Child Abuse Prevention breakfast event scheduled for Friday, April 11.
Rudolph said the event will be held in partnership with Akron Children's Hospital and will include a keynote address from Mahoning County Prosecutor Lynn Morrow, a community spotlight award to recognize a local partner, a performance by the Boardman High School Jazz Band and a color guard presentation by East High School Junior ROTC. She said the event is intended to promote child‑abuse prevention awareness and to thank community partners who assist the agency's work with children and families.
"We will be having a keynote speaker. It will be attorney Lynn Morrow, our county prosecutor. We are presenting a community spotlight award to a member of the community who has partnered with the agency to help us meet the needs of the children and families we work with," Rudolph said.
Rudolph said RSVP information and flyers were left at the commissioners' meeting for anyone interested in attending.
Why this matters: Pinwheels events are part of an annual national effort to raise awareness of child abuse prevention. County Children's Services and health partners typically use such events to promote reporting, prevention resources and community partnership.
Next steps: Rudolph asked community members, civic organizations and faith groups to attend and to contact county children's services for RSVP details.
