Sheriff’s office reports renovations finished, extra patrols and additional school resource officers

A representative of the LaSalle County Sheriff’s Office reported that renovations to the sheriff’s office are complete, staffing increases are underway and school resource officer coverage has expanded.
The speaker said the sheriff’s office renovated the training room, installed new flooring and paint and added cubicles to the patrol room to give deputies private space to complete reports. Three deputies recently completed the county Field Training Officer program and are now on patrol; the speaker said six new recruits approved by the board will begin a 16-week academy on May 4.
School resource officers: The department recently moved one deputy from patrol to a school resource officer (SRO) role and now has three SROs in place. The speaker said the sheriff had discussed making an SRO position a permanent assignment at one school.
Hiring and testing: The sheriff’s office reported a strong applicant pool for the latest hiring round, including solid turnout for the physical and written tests; several additional candidates remain on the eligibility list.
Committee action: Committee members approved the sheriff’s monthly report and voted to pay the sheriff’s bills during the meeting (see “Votes at a glance”).
