District distributes early‑literacy stipend after two‑year state grant; about $18,000 reached teachers and assistants

Dr. Miller said the board adopted guidelines last year that allowed the district to award stipends to both certified teachers and classified staff who worked with K‑3 students on literacy.
Dr. Miller told the board the funds were split proportionally by responsibility and by measured growth and pass rate at each school. "This year we received just over $18,000 which we distributed to 64 certified staff [and] 45 IAs," she said, describing teacher stipends ranging roughly from $246 to $289 and instructional assistant awards from about $50 to $72. About 100 district employees benefited, she said.
Dr. Miller said the award program had exceptional growth the prior year and noted this was a two‑year grant; she said the district expects this to be the final scheduled year of funding through that grant program.
