Staff said two new young umpires were on the fields and several experienced volunteers are handling softball and T‑ball duties, reducing immediate coverage gaps. Named volunteers and youth referenced at the meeting include Jackson Spence and Tristan Baxter (youth players who spoke with an umpire), Matt Ritter (softball), Bo Rabott, Tanner Skidmore and Brady Jarvis (umpires), and T‑ball volunteers Tucker McCullough and Kendall Marshall. Concession coverage is currently arranged for Peters Park and Dixon Park by Abby Dye and a friend.
The department also plans to repaint concession stands and cover several small murals. Staff reported that 10 gallons of paint were donated and that repainting will proceed when weather permits; a schedule will be set once staff and volunteers confirm dates. The meeting noted a recently completed mural contest and that winners’ pictures have been posted; staff said they will work with contest organizers to obtain the winning images before repainting.
A parks planting event was discussed as a community engagement option. Organizers described two models: (1) an on‑site volunteer planting day at a park where participants plant directly in park beds, or (2) a take‑home planting activity in which residents plant in containers provided by the department. One speaker said OSU Alumni Association members had previously discussed planting near a local Pistol Pete display, but staff noted that area is not managed by parks and that the organizer must contact David Sasser for permission.
No formal action was taken on any of these items at the meeting; staff said these items remain at the discussion stage and that they will return with proposed dates, volunteer sign‑up details and cost estimates.
