County staff also said the county could instead pay the township to perform the two years of maintenance.
Commissioners discussed leaving the existing blacktop in place until a planned future resurfacing in 2027 rather than doing interim work now; the board directed staff to include language about that arrangement in the turnback agreement. The resolution and the written agreement will specify the repairs the township will perform and the maintenance responsibilities for the two-year period or the county’s payment option in lieu of county maintenance.
The board moved to open the public hearing, then closed it after no members of the public came forward. The board then moved and seconded the resolution to turn the segment back to Featherstone Township and adopted it by roll call. The roll call read: Commissioner Batcher, yes; Commissioner Flanders, aye; Commissioner Impressive, aye; Commissioner Anderson, aye; Commissioner New Jersey, aye. The chair announced the motion carries.
Next steps noted in the meeting included drafting the final written turnback agreement that will incorporate the township’s requested repairs, the two-year maintenance requirement (or payment alternative), and the plan to leave existing paving in place until the scheduled resurfacing in 2027.
