Weston Wildcat News: Forward exams, spring clubs and kindergarten chick incubation

Weston Elementary’s Wildcat News on April 7 announced that third-, fourth- and fifth-grade students will take the Forward Exam during the week of April 7–11 and asked the school community to be quiet near testing rooms so students can concentrate.

The student hosts, Leilani (student host) and Noel (student host), listed the week’s lunch menu, recognized birthdays for Eddie G. and Andreas G., and reminded third- through fifth-graders to get a good night’s sleep and a balanced breakfast before testing. Leilani said, “Elevating your perspective means looking back on that difficult time and thinking about what you learned or the good that came from it.”

Staff announced school activities for the week: a paw-slip incentive for third through fifth graders to win board games with Miss Brooks; a fourth-grade field trip to the school forest to learn how maple syrup is made; and the start of spring after-school clubs. The after-school schedule given: Wildcat Racers for grades K–2 on Mondays; Read and Run for grades 3–5 on Tuesdays; and Wildcat Racers for grades 3–5 on Wednesdays.

School staff also recognized National School Librarian Day, thanking Miss Wardell and Miss Brown for their work. Kindergarten teachers began an incubation project for fertilized eggs; Mrs. Freistack, a kindergarten teacher, said the incubation countdown started April 2 and noted the hatching process typically takes about 21 days. The program will provide periodic updates during April as the eggs develop.
