Lake County Library highlights new thriller and National Poetry Month events

Veach summarized Wild Dark Shore, a thriller released in March by Australian author Charlotte McConaghey, saying the novel is set on a tiny island that houses the world's largest seed bank and follows a small group of residents as a mysterious woman appears and the community contends with violent storms and rising seas. He noted the book is available in print, audiobook and ebook formats through the Lake County Library system and can be requested through the combined online catalog shared with the Sonoma and Mendocino County library systems.
The shared catalog allows patrons to request items at no charge and have materials sent to their local branch for pickup. Veach listed local pickup locations as Lakeport, Clear Lake, Middletown and Upper Lake and noted the system also serves readers via its bookmobile.
Veach said the library is celebrating National Poetry Month with events across the month and singled out a Saturday reading at Lakeport Library by Forrest Gander, who won the 2019 Pulitzer Prize for Poetry for Be With. He invited the public to consult the library calendar on library.lakecountyca.gov for additional programming details.
The update was presented without a board vote or formal action and concluded with Veach thanking listeners. No policy changes or funding decisions were announced during the report.
