The attorney read the resolution; the city's public-safety director explained that the department's fleet fell below normal levels after recent incidents and that replacements are needed now because lead times for ordered vehicles can be significant. He said one claim had produced about $22,000 in recovery to date but the final net insurance recoveries were not yet known.
"Because of the need for these vehicles, we need to get them ordered right away," the director said. The resolution passed on a 4-0 roll call.
Staff said the city would continue to pursue insurance claims for the damaged units; the amendment covers immediate purchase authority to maintain operational readiness.
