The House Committee on Early Childhood and Human Services on April 3 voted to advance House Bill 3,933, a request to appropriate $4,900,000 from the General Fund to the Department of Human Services for distribution to relief nursery programs.
Taylor, providing the bill summary, said the measure declares an emergency and would be effective July 1, 2025. Representative Ruiz moved the measure with a due‑pass recommendation and asked that it be referred to the Joint Committee on Ways and Means by prior reference.
Committee members expressed strong support. Representative McIntyre said she was “super excited” and hoped the funding would be available; others described relief nurseries’ wraparound services and local partnerships and urged Ways and Means to fund the request.
Why it matters: Relief nurseries provide early‑childhood wraparound services for families and children with developmental and behavioral needs. Committee members said the programs deliver community‑based supports and asked Ways and Means to treat the funding as a priority.
The committee closed the work session on House Bill 3,933 and advanced the measure to Ways and Means for budget consideration.
