Planning staff provided an informational update to the Committee of the Whole on April 1 about the Redmond 20/50 code package Part 3, which updates design standards and related sections of the city code as part of the broader 2025 code updates.
Director Carol Helland and planner Becky Fry said the package largely replaces the old structure of design standards, clarifies where design standards interact with the city’s green building program and incentives, and creates a clearer pathway for review of unique or signature buildings in centers and cultural districts. Fry said the Planning Commission is in the public hearing phase, the commission is finalizing edits in response to Planning Commission, public and technical advisory committee comments, and staff anticipates the commission could provide a recommendation at its April 23 meeting if the schedule holds.
Staff said they will forward the Planning Commission report to council via email for early review and return to the Committee of the Whole on April 22 with a table of changes showing what was edited. Staff told council the intent is to present final recommendations for council approval in June so the design standards and associated code edits can be adopted contemporaneously with the MFTE and other 2025 code updates.
