The Brockton School Committee voted unanimously April 1 on several procedural items: adopting the 2025–26 academic calendar, setting the summer meeting schedule, approving the consent agenda of routine items, and accepting a recommendation from the accounts subcommittee on community schools unpaid invoices.
Academic calendar: the committee approved the 2025–26 academic calendar and accepted the recommendation from principals to have school closed on Sept. 16, 2025, the preliminary election day. The superintendent told the committee that 9 of 13 principals who responded recommended closing that day for safety and traffic reasons. A motion to approve the calendar carried by unanimous voice vote.
Summer meeting schedule: the committee approved its summer meeting schedule—Tuesday, July 8, 2025, and Tuesday, Aug. 12, 2025—both at 6 p.m. Members noted some availability conflicts but voted to adopt the dates.
Consent agenda: the School Committee approved the consent agenda, which included the approval of minutes from Feb. 11, 2025; committee meeting dates for 2025–26; school closing dates for the 2024–25 year; the career technical education report; authorization to accept West Ed Middle School math study funds ($15,000 from the Gates Foundation); and human resources notifications.
Accounts subcommittee: the committee approved the accounts subcommittee’s recommendation to pay community-schools unpaid invoices; other older invoices from multiple years were denied pending further investigation, per legal counsel’s guidance.
Votes at a glance: all votes noted above were recorded as unanimous in open session.
Speakers and sources: motions were moved and seconded by School Committee members on the floor; several members participated in discussion prior to votes.
