Applicant John Chase said the dumpster would occupy the first boat‑trailer/vehicle spot adjacent to Tree Island, on the south side of the Mass Landing parking lot, and would be removed prior to Memorial Day weekend. Selectmen discussed previous instances in town when dumpsters were left with debris onsite and created a list of conditions designed to avoid a repeat.
Conditions the board approved include: the dumpster company and the property owner must provide contact numbers to the town; the owner or company must submit three photographs each Friday showing that debris is contained inside the dumpster and the ground around it is clear; if photographic proof is not provided by 3 p.m. Friday the town may direct the dumpster company to remove the container the following Monday at the owner’s expense; the dumpster must be removed before Memorial Day with no exceptions; and the owner agreed to use a magnet sweep to remove nails, screws, or other hazards. Motion to approve included these conditions and passed by voice vote.
Selectmen asked that the motion text and conditions be provided to the town secretary for inclusion in the minutes and permit file.
