City manager names Chad Smith as new parks and recreation director; start date May 5

City Manager Doug Ellington announced that he has offered the director of Parks and Recreation position to Chad Smith, who accepted and will begin on May 5. Ellington said Smith is a resident of Oxford and has served with Metro Parks of Butler County since October 2019, previously worked as executive director of Three Valley Conservation Trust and as park manager at East Fork State Park for the Ohio Department of Natural Resources.
Ellington said Smith is a Miami University graduate and that the city looks forward to his contributions. Councilors welcomed the appointment during announcements; several councilors and the mayor praised Smith’s local experience and anticipated leadership for parks, recreation and trails.
