Ohio representatives highlight Child Abuse Prevention Month, point constituents to Ohio Children's Trust Fund resources

COLUMBUS — During floor privileges the Ohio House of Representatives recognized April as National Child Abuse Prevention Month and highlighted resources available through the Ohio Children's Trust Fund.
Representative White, noting that April is National Child Abuse Prevention Month, identified Nicole Silliman as the director of the Ohio Children's Trust Fund and called attention to statewide prevention programs. "In Ohio right now, guys, 40 reports a day of child abuse and neglect. We've got to do more to prevent this," Representative White said.
White said the trust fund supports regional networks in every legislative district and that the House will circulate resources to members by email. She listed services state residents can promote to constituents: a family support call line, Triple P (Positive Parenting Program) free online parenting resources, Family Connects home-visiting programs and parent and youth ambassadors.
Representative Brownlee, a therapist by training who said she has reported and worked with families affected by abuse and neglect, urged colleagues to use the materials and stressed prevention. "Anything that we can do to prevent emotional, physical, or child abuse or neglect can save a future, can save a lifetime," Brownlee said.
Representative White also noted that she currently serves as one of two legislative members on the board and said an email packet of resources would be sent to members for distribution to constituents.
The remarks were delivered during floor privileges and did not include any formal vote.
