Ohio House approves memorial highway, agriculture designations and worker-compensation budgets; tacks online labor-posting option

COLUMBUS — The Ohio House of Representatives passed five measures in a floor session that included memorial highway designations, commemorative agricultural weeks, biennial budget bills for worker-compensation agencies and a measure allowing employers to post certain Ohio labor-law notices online.

The votes affect both symbolic recognitions and operating budgets for state agencies that oversee workers' compensation and workplace dispute resolution. Lawmakers also debated, and then tabled, an amendment on a labor-posting bill before approving the underlying measure.

Representative Klopfenstein, sponsor of House Bill 51, told colleagues the bill honors Lieutenant James A. Kuykendahl and asked for support. "I appreciate the opportunity to speak in support of House Bill 51," Klopfenstein said on the floor. The chamber approved the highway designation unanimously, with the clerk recording 94 affirmative votes and no negatives, and the bill was passed and titled.

House Bill 65, the Agriculture Appreciation Act, designates several days and weeks — including FFA week, 4-H week, soil health week and National Farmers Market Week (added by amendment) — intended to recognize agricultural organizations and promote the state’s agricultural industry.
