The Sales Tax Citizens Oversight Committee presented its annual report to the Corte Madera Town Council April 1 and told the council the committee is satisfied with compliance and accounting for Measure F (transactions and use tax) revenues.
Karen Gurbotsi, chair of the oversight committee, said committee members reviewed spending and recommended continued attention to certain community needs. "We're satisfied with how the funds are done," she said. The committee included a new member this year and noted it added, next to each dollar amount in the report, the percentage share of total sales tax expenditures; the committee reported that flood control projects accounted for nearly half of the sales-tax-funded expenditures in the audited year.
Councilmembers asked about whether sales-tax reserves or other town funds could be used to address pension or pension‑trust funding needs; staff said the sales tax is a general‑purpose revenue and the council can reassign funds if it chooses. Staff also said it plans to provide quarterly sales-tax category reports showing broad revenue sources (not individual stores) following a recent quarter close.
No formal council action was required; the item was presented for receipt. Committee members and councilmembers discussed exploring a five‑year look‑back of expenditures and a five‑year outlook to help both transparency and planning for future projects.
