Senate Workforce Committee reopens and amends engrossed House Bill 1049, sends bill with due-pass recommendation

Committee Chairman Senator Wabamuk called the reconsideration motion at the committee meeting and Senator Axman moved, “I move that we reconsider our actions by which we passed engrossed House Bill 10 49,” which received a second and passed on a voice vote. The committee then moved to adopt an amendment described for the record as adding back the phrase “field work” after the word “experienced” on page 2, line 4; the amendment was seconded and approved unanimously on a roll call.
Senator Axman explained the amendment was needed because “the inserted language or field work was omitted” when the amendment came back to the committee. After the amendment passed, a motion for a due-pass recommendation as amended was made, seconded and carried unanimously. The clerk recorded a unanimous roll call in favor of the amendment and of the final recommendation.
The committee’s action was procedural: a vote was reconvened to correct an omission and to reflect the intent of the committee in the engrossed text. No further debate on substantive policy changes to the bill was recorded during that reconsideration sequence.
The committee clerk handled the roll calls for both the amendment and the final motion; the minutes show the committee moved the corrected bill forward to the next legislative stage with a due-pass as amended recommendation.
The committee’s minutes show the amendment text restores a phrase the sponsors said was inadvertently left out, and the committee recorded unanimous support for the corrected version. No additional amendments or conditions were attached at the time of the committee’s recommendation.
The bill is now forwarded with a committee recommendation that it pass the Senate in the amended form.
