Page County Engineer JD King updated the Board of Supervisors on ongoing and planned public-works projects and equipment needs, and the board took two related approvals: a rock petition to gravel a segment of Redwood Avenue and a capital-asset disposal by online auction.
King said crews are cutting berms and shoulders to manage runoff, hauling rock south of town and replacing pipe on K Avenue. He said the county will install a pipe liner at a location near 200 Twentieth Street rather than dig up recently paved area. King said Essex Bridge deck work is forming and could reach deck stage in April or May, weather permitting. He also reported a preconstruction meeting for guardrail work on J64; the contractor tentatively plans to start April 7 and will close the older stretch of the road between 59 and Hackberry and place a detour on J52 and 59.
King discussed equipment needs: the county is seeking a replacement single-axle dump truck and has located two candidates. One is an older 2002 Kenworth with about 200,000 miles; another is a 2018 International with about 44,000 miles that is being fitted with a box by a dealer in Louisville, Kentucky. King said county shops are backed up and the truck in the shop may not return until fall, so the purchase is time-sensitive for upcoming spray and pavement work.
During the same segment the board considered a rock petition from Janice and Kent Carl, who requested that the county gravel 1,150 feet of Redwood Avenue north of J20 to provide all-weather access for a planned house site. The Carl family agreed to contribute $4,810 toward the work; the board approved the petition by motion and voice vote.
The board also approved a Capital Asset Management form permitting the online sale of five county items. King said the sale is required by the state auditor’s asset-disposal process and that the county expects to list equipment on an online auction platform (Purple Wave was mentioned). Supervisors confirmed that buyer-side auction fees are paid by the purchaser. The board approved the disposal by motion (motion recorded as made by a supervisor identified in the transcript as Eric).
No formal contract awards or final purchases were made at the meeting; King said staff will return with details and bring additional items forward if necessary.
