The Legislative committee approved Conway Public Schools’ request to exceed the cooperative-purchasing aggregate amount for construction services under Arkansas Code Annotated §19-11-249(d) to allow a renovation to proceed over the summer.
Shasta D. Wagner, chief legal officer for Conway Public Schools, said the request seeks permission to exceed the cooperative purchasing aggregate for renovation of the Bob and Betty Courtway (name as submitted in request) school facility, with work to start after students leave in May and finish before they return in August. Doctor Jeff Collum, superintendent for Conway Public Schools, said the district’s maintenance team typically provides labor and some materials on such projects to reduce costs, and that the district had already delayed the renovation for a year and wanted to proceed to avoid further disruption to students.
Representative Evans commended the district for following the process and using local vendors. The committee moved to approve the waiver; the motion carried with members recorded as saying 'Aye' and no roll-call vote printed in the transcript.
The waiver was granted under the cited code section; the committee did not record the precise aggregate amount requested in the transcript.
