At the commission’s regular meeting Mayor David M. Mason read proclamations recognizing April as the Month of the Military Child and April 2025 as Fair Housing Awareness Month and invited the public to a library event called the Crown’s Tea.
Mayor Mason said the city will mark the Month of the Military Child with events that recognize children who move frequently because of military service and noted downtown lighting was changed to purple for the observance. A speaker identified as Nicole explained that military‑connected children “move an average of 6 to 9 times during their kindergarten through twelfth grade education,” and said purple is used because it “is a combination of all the colors of the branches of military.”
The mayor also read a proclamation recognizing the 57th anniversary of the federal Fair Housing Act and presented it to local realtors who attended. The proclamation text, as read at the meeting, described the national policy of equal housing opportunity and said local community partners will continue outreach and education.
Library Director Terry Raitt invited citizens to the Crown’s Tea on May 3 at 2 p.m. at the Enid Public Library, a family event of conversation, tea and finger foods. Suzette Chang of the organization Thick Descriptions said attendees are welcome to wear hats and bring teacups; registration details are available on the library’s flyer.
The proclamations are ceremonial actions; no formal ordinance or budget action accompanied them at the meeting.
