Enid commission fills openings on recreational, fire civil service and library boards

The Enid City Commission on its regular meeting appointed members to three local boards and confirmed two reappointments to the city recreation board.

The commission reappointed Jason Glenn and Kevin Besacek to the Enid Joint Recreational Triad Board of Directors. Jason Glenn received seven votes and Kevin Besacek received seven votes, according to the roll call read after the ballots were tallied.

The reappointed candidates spoke briefly about their goals for youth sports. Jason Glenn said he supported changing age-grouping policies to align with statewide standards, adding, “We added in a younger group, and caught up with the rest of the state.” Kevin Besacek described his work growing softball program revenue and said the sport’s participation and funding had expanded under his tenure.

The commission also appointed Michael Summerfield to the Fire Civil Service Commission. Summerfield received four votes; the clerk read the vote distribution showing Patterson, Norwood, Baker and Mason voting for Summerfield. Summerfield outlined prior emergency-services experience, including decades running ambulance calls and work as a chaplain.

Two library-board seats were filled. Norman Gray, serving an unexpired term as a poll worker, was selected to a full term after receiving six votes. Terry Connolly (listed in the transcript as Terry Conley/Connolly) received five votes and will start a new term on the library board. Nancy Presnell spoke to the commission on Gray’s behalf, noting Gray’s prior service on an unexpired term and his desire to continue.

Commissioners emphasized the value of volunteers and urged unsuccessful applicants to reapply for future openings.
