Bond update: high school steel rising; stadium work, portable packages and campus projects move toward summer

District project-control staff gave trustees a monthly bond update and schedule for work funded by the voter-approved bond program.
High school: Construction is underway on the high school north wing with steel erection visible and pans in place on the second and third floors; crews will pour concrete soon and continue utility runs and foundation work. Boiler replacement work has begun. Interior auditorium work (lighting, sound) is scheduled to start when school is out.
Stadium and athletic complex: East-side stadium foundation work is scheduled and contractor work to install beams, plumbing and electrical is underway; stadium sound-speaker installation occurred over spring break and engineers will tune the system at a subsequent site visit. The district is still awaiting City of San Antonio permits for the softball field GMP, anticipated this week; work is planned to start in April. The baseball project (bleacher cover, restrooms) will be bid via RFP and scheduled to be completed before baseball season.
Cambridge Elementary: The portable package (two portables = four classrooms) cleared the ARB and will return to the board for the GMP approval the same night. Staff received site-submittal approvals and will present the GMP to the board in April for additional campus construction elements.
Woodridge and Howard: Woodridge subcontractor walk-throughs and bidding are underway with GMPs targeted for the April board meeting; Howard is in the pre-construction phase with seven general-contractor bids received and selection expected at the April meeting with construction to start in spring 2026.
Budget status: The presentation noted project-level budget percentages (high school ~22% into budget; several campuses remain at low percent spent as design and procurement continue). Staff emphasized April as a busy month for construction milestones and asked trustees to expect updated schedules and contractor information at the next meetings.
What this means to the community: Neighbors should expect more visible construction activity, some traffic and staging near campuses, and staff warned of temporary impacts (bus parking, noise during certain work windows). Staff also said they will maintain outreach to neighbors, including sound testing and engineering checks in areas near the stadium.
