Monongalia County Commission approves consent agenda, personnel hires and two proclamations; schedules community forums

The Monongalia County Commission on April 2 approved routine consent agenda items, closed a fiduciary estate, confirmed two personnel hires, adopted two proclamations and approved several administrative requisitions.
On the consent agenda the commission approved 15 exonerations, minutes from March 26, vouchers and purchasing card vouchers and other routine items as presented by County Administrator Reneta McClure. A motion to approve the consent agenda passed on a voice vote.
Fiduciary business: Fiduciary Commissioner George Armistead informed the commission that an objection to the estate of Sharon Travis had been withdrawn. The commission moved to approve the fiduciary recommendation to settle the Travis estate and close the estate; the motion passed on a voice vote.
Personnel: The commission approved hiring David Helms as a full-time school safety officer, effective April 16, with a monthly salary recorded in the meeting as $3,004.16; staff said the position is funded through an agreement with the Board of Education. The commission also approved Celeste McIntyre as a part-time Preston County volunteer supervisor with a rate of $19.23 per hour; staff said the part-time post is not eligible for benefits.
Proclamations: Amaya Williams, outreach and volunteer coordinator for the domestic violence information center (RDVIC), read a proclamation declaring April 2025 as Sexual Assault Awareness Month in Monongalia County and invited the public to a "Walking with Survivors" event on April 12 from 3 to 6 p.m. at the Farmers Market Pavilion. The commission approved the proclamation.
Lynn Castro, director of the Monongalia County Solid Waste Authority, read a proclamation declaring April 2025 as Food Waste Prevention Week in Monongalia County. The commission approved the proclamation as amended to correct a section in the text.
Finance and requisitions: The commission approved several administrative requisitions: Requisition No. 20 for the University Town Center Series 2023-A property tax district administrative expense fund ($2,011.25), Requisition No. 102 for the University Town Center excise tax district administrative expense fund (approximately $2,003.00), and Requisition No. 14 for the Series 2021-B Harmony Grove Phase 1 administrative expense fund ($487.50). Each requisition motion passed on voice votes.
Reports: County and agency reports included a schedule of community forums announced by a county official, with meetings set for April 9 (6:00 p.m., Mason Dixon Park, Western Mon area), April 10 (6:00 p.m., education center in Westover) and April 14 (6:30 p.m., Chestnut Ridge Church) to present annual reports and engage residents. Commissioners also reported on a recent countywide cleanup that collected 1,525 pounds of garbage; organizers thanked local labor groups, city officials and volunteers.
