Airport staff updated the commission on several operations and maintenance items, including runway lighting repairs, fuel inventory and an electronic gate problem.
Staff reported an FAA flyover for an aerial survey had taken place and that College Associateselectrician had been on site to assist. Five lights were damaged during winter operations; staff replaced parts and used one new LED light from the parts inventory. The LED top unit was described in the meeting as costly, around $1,000 for the LED module and circuit board, and staff said they received a supply of spares (a dozen new lights and additional parts).
Commissioners discussed how high snow banks and plowing had contributed to light damage and proposed measures such as placing fiberglass posts 10 feet from lights to mark locations when snow is high. Staff suggested being more careful during plowing; another commissioner proposed a plan to throw snow beyond the lights to keep them visible.
The commission was told the fuel tank inventory held 1,563 gallons; commissioners discussed expected fuel purchases next month for flying season. Separately, staff reported the gate had an electronic problem and that repairs would be prioritized as an essential expense despite the citywide spending freeze. Staff said they would obtain quotes for gate repair and pursue emergency spending approval if necessary.
Commissioners also discussed lighting electrical infrastructure, how LED fixtures tie into the site's power feed and transformers, and the need to compare pre‑ and post‑LED electricity costs because the system includes additional transformers and a heat pump serving equipment vaults.
