The Monongalia County Commission on April 2 voted to assign a county-awarded I‑79 Exit 155 “mega grant” to the West Virginia Division of Highways to facilitate and expedite completion of the project.
County staff described the assignment as a time-sensitive administrative step and said the West Virginia Department of Highways (DOH) had signed the agreement with only minor wordsmithing changes. "I'm happy that this agreement is finally ready to move forward," a county staff member said during the discussion. Another staff speaker said they were "looking forward to working with the new administration to see it to fruition."
A motion to approve the agreement was made, seconded and approved without recorded opposition on the meeting record.
The commission did not provide new budget figures for the project during the discussion on April 2. County staff framed the action as an assignment of the grant to a state partner to accelerate project delivery rather than as a new appropriation by the commission.
