Commissioner highlights Checkbook tool, Sequential Intercept symposium and community events

- Washoe Checkbook: Andrea said the county will launch a public “Washoe Checkbook” — modeled on the state’s Nevada Checkbook — to display revenues and expenditures with frequent updates. She said the county tool will be unveiled at the April 8 Washoe County Commission meeting and that a Budget 101 session based on the current budget will be recorded and shared to help residents understand county finances.
- Sequential Intercept symposium: Andrea encouraged CAB members to register for a free symposium April 25 (1–4 p.m. at Renown auditorium) on the Sequential Intercept Model, a criminal‑justice best practice that coordinates law enforcement, courts and treatment programs to reduce repeated justice system involvement. She said the symposium will feature judges, law enforcement and community partners and that space is limited; she offered to help residents register.
- National tree ornament initiative: Andrea said Nevada counties and local schoolchildren will contribute ornaments for a national Christmas tree in Washington, D.C.; Washoe County School District agreed to participate and students will make ornaments to represent the county.
Andrea said she serves on the Nevada Association of Counties (NACO) board and that Washoe County has moved to support statewide participation in some of the tools referenced earlier by emergency management (PerimeterMap pilot and related regional coordination).
Ending: Andrea closed by urging residents to take part in local boards and commissions (application deadlines posted on WashoeCounty.gov) and to attend the Budget 101 session when it is released.
