JUHSD board approves amendment to decommission Jefferson High gym solar panels; early termination cost about $350,000

The Jefferson Union High School District Board of Education voted to approve a third amendment to the district’s energy service agreement that allows removal of solar panels on the gym at Jefferson High School so demolition can proceed.
Deputy Superintendent Van Rapphorst told the board the amendment was necessary to permit partial decommissioning of the solar system on the gym roof to accommodate demolition work. “Because we are ending the contract early, it will cost us about $350,000,” Van Rapphorst said.
After the presentation, a motion to approve the third amendment was moved and seconded. The board voted in favor; the chair called, “All those in favor. Aye,” and the motion carried.
The amendment ends part of the existing energy-service contract early to allow the district’s Jefferson High gym demolition and related construction work to proceed. No additional project financing or alternative energy plan was described at the meeting; the deputy superintendent’s remarks limited the item to the contract amendment and the approximate early-termination cost.
