Jefferson County commissioners approve airport leases, grants, contracts and $1.93 million ARPA advance

Jefferson County's commissioners on March 11 approved a package of proclamations, contracts, budget amendments and land-use permits, voting unanimously on each item.

The court proclaimed March 2025 as Red Cross Month and heard brief remarks from Taylor Shelton, a local Red Cross representative. "No. It's an honor to be here," Shelton said after the court read the proclamation recognizing volunteer relief work and encouraging citizens to support the organization.

Why it matters: the approvals include a lease and engineering work at Jack Brooks Regional Airport and a federally funded airfield lighting project, several county purchasing contracts and election- and public-safety-related services. The meeting also cleared a nearly $1.93 million American Rescue Plan Act advance to a local water district, a series of budget transfers and routine plats and permits that affect development in parts of the county.
