The York County Board of Equalization met April 1 and approved three permissive-exemption applications, accepted tax-list corrections and rescinded two previously granted exemptions for Grace Children's Home.
Kurt Boldrin, the county assessor, explained three tax-list corrections that adjusted LB 2 values for certain parcels and added the resulting taxes. Boldrin told the board the state's LB 2 provision applies to farm ground and reduces its value to 50 percent of actual value for the purpose of school bond levies passed after Jan. 1, 2022.
During the public hearing portion of the equalization meeting, a resident reiterated skepticism about permissive exemptions, calling many such requests simply efforts by entities "looking for money." The board then moved to approve permissive exemptions for three entities published for notice on March 21. The three recommended approvals were: the York Community Foundation, Herbert J. Bloom Post 1609, and the local Fraternal Order of Eagles (the transcript records the organizations in that order). The board recorded approval of the three permissive exemptions.
The board also addressed two parcels belonging to Grace Children's Home. County staff reported that the organization had notified the assessor that it no longer met the exemption requirements; the commissioners moved to rescind the exemptions on the two parcel numbers provided to the board and voted to remove the exemptions.
The meeting record shows motions carried by roll call; the transcript does not record an exact numeric tally for each vote in the public excerpt, but commissioners announced approvals and the chair closed the equalization session.
Ending: The assessor said the three tax-list corrections involved newly calculated LB 2 values and that rescinded exemptions will be removed from the tax rolls as directed by the board.
