Commission approves firefighter recruitment ad and signs off on lieutenant assessment results

The Moraine Merit System Commission voted to approve an advertisement for full-time entry-level firefighter positions and accepted the results of a recent lieutenant assessment center during its April 1 meeting.
Staff presented an advertisement for full-time firefighter recruitment, with application opening on April 4 and closing April 23 (staff confirmed the ad will run in the Sunday paper and be advertised twice). Commissioners moved and seconded acceptance of the ad and approved it on a roll call.
Separately, commissioners reviewed results from a lieutenant assessment center conducted by the Miami Valley Fire and EMS Alliance. Staff said three firefighters participated in the assessment center, which included computer-based testing, role-play personnel scenarios, tactical assessments, a presentation and a written assignment. Staff reported that all three performed well overall, with two scoring higher than the third. The assessment organizer provided written feedback and section-by-section summaries to inform future training.
Commissioners voted to approve the assessment-center results after staff indicated the official scores would be printed and distributed for the record. Staff noted that names and detailed reports will be released and that the assessment supplies useful training insights for individual development and department-level training planning.
The commission recorded votes approving the firefighter advertisement and the assessment-center results; staff will post the advertisement and distribute the assessment results per commission direction.
